Weekly Blog: Egyptian Turmoil

Jordan brings up a great point- the protests against the Egyptian government are definitely a political and social issue that are publicized internationally, and thus, deserve attention from our blog. It doesn't take much to determine the visual argument this image portrays, especially due to the extensive media coverage of the events occurring in Egypt. Newspapers, articles, news networks...it seems as though every established media source is caught up in the Egyptian people's anti-Mubarak sentiments. But who knew that a blog could be just as informative as these sources?

CBS News has published a live blog, providing full coverage of the turmoil in Egypt on a minute-by-minute basis. We may not be in the action, but the blog allows us to visualize the events at the exact times they occur (or so we assume from the blog posts). The blog is incredibly informative: it combines video, text, and image to visually stimulate and relay updates. Here is Obama's statement to Egyptian authorities proposing that they "refrain from any violence against peaceful protesters."

When we watch live coverage, such as the video below (caution: graphic violence), the situation becomes so much more real--these sources of media grant access to media coverage within the events themselves.
