Blogs in Plain English Video
I thought this was a great video explaining the general functions of a blog in very simple terms. I liked the video style of incorporating drawings and paper layout to show how traditional forms of media have come to create the blog by adding more new media techniques. It specifically mentioned that bloggers can read, quote, and link other blogs, which I thought related to the Economist article "It's the links, stupid" because it continuously emphasized how often bloggers link to other blogs to fact check to establish a more valid argument. It also discussed how blogs give people the power of the media. I thought this was extremely relevant to an overarching question in our class of who controls new media. Because anyone with a computer can comment, add to, and often times alter the content on the internet, power to control content no longer lies in those at the top. Instead, power is greatly disseminated throughout the population of internet users, thus giving people the power of new media. Overall, I thought this was a great video for informing people about what blogs do and how users can utilize them to their benefit. Great find!

ReplyDeleteThis was the original video Allie posted that I responded to. Somehow her original post with commentary got deleted in the process of me commenting on it - not really sure what happened but Allie definitely had a post. Sorry about that!!
